The Causes and Effects of Teenage Pregnancy

In today's world, teenage pregnancy is a disturbing issue. Many teenagers are currently participating in sexual contact with other teenagers just so they can be like their friends. Usually, a teenager who is pregnant before she becomes an adult will be criticized and frowned upon. Since teens get pregnant for many different reasons, any attempts to lowering the rate of teenage pregnancy must start with a pure understanding of the causes and incentives that influence adolescent pregnancy. To give an improved understanding of teenage pregnancy, I will focus on some causes and of teenage pregnancy: sexual pressures, peer influence, negligence of contraceptives and dysfunctional families

First, the present- day emphasis on sex and the pressures of engaging in sex and sexual indulgence seems to be encouraged instead of fading away. Sexual pressures from people, are putting a match to the already tense sex drives of teenagers and wearing down on their ability to stop the indulgence. The outcome: more teenagers today are having sex.

They say that they listen to friends talk about having sex, which makes them want to experience what sex is like on a personal level. Others teenage girls refer to direct pressures of having sex, they want to fit in, claiming virgins and abstinent teens will be teased and bullied.Teens become pregnant because they believe in a lot of hopeful protections they have on unwelcomed pregnancy. For instance, "some teen girls thought that they would not become pregnant if they engaged sex while standing up" (Emge 22). The withdrawal method was another hopeful method; teens put too much faith in the judgment of a teenage boy. Douching with several mixtures right after engaging in sex was also believed to prevent them from becoming pregnant. Some teen girls think that they can't get pregnant so they don't take the essential precautions to protect themselves against it

The current widespread of broken family household and divorces are also to blame. Teenagers that are from families with low income are not probable to use any type of birth control. A teen that is raised in a family lacking a suitable amount of affection and love or where there is no present male figure could also cause teenage pregnancy. Studies also show that teen girls from single-parent homes are expected to start having sex and getting pregnant. Young teens from two-parent families are more responsible with contraceptive use than teens that have one parent.

Lastly, teenage pregnancy can have long periods of negative effects on mothers. It can

cause major limitations on a teenage mother's freedom, education and social life. It is not likely
