The relationship between Charles Banks and the Clark family was a golden period. The families had a respectful relationship. The Clark family left an impression on Charles Banks. Charles view's on race relations change because of the Clarks. Charles now has an understanding that not all whites are bad, and it is also possible for blacks and whites to co-exist.

The old Negro elite are African-American who prospers during the time of slavery. Although they were blacks; they were not treated the same as the other people who were consider blacks. The old Negro elite were wealthy, and had their own property, not only did they own their own property but they also owned slaves. They were very intellectual and obtained their success through hard work and devotion. The lifestyle of a free black was different and benefited.

3. Define the New Negro elite

The new Negro elites were similar to the old Negro elite. The negro elite had things such as wealth, prosperity, education, good jobs and high status. The color of their skins also mattered greatly. They were the wealthiest African Americans after the Slavery-era. Not all of them lived in the south, many lived in the country. They were less articulate and educated than the Old Elites. They were able to have many more opportunities and lived a good life.

They had a strong bond. Charles Banks was a big and strong supporter of the Republican Party. He was also the Chief Lieutenant of the Tuskegee machine in the Mississippi River. He notices that it was tension between black and whites and having federal authorities will make everything better.
