Atom Bomb - World War 2

On August 2, 1939 the United States introduced the creation nuclear weapons into our society, they heard from Albert Einstein that the Germans were trying to purify uranium which would be used in atomic bombs. This topic interest me because even though there are numerous types of weapons of mass destruction, I can't help but to think that we were the ones to be able to successfully create and use the first atomic bomb. These types of weapons use the power of atoms to produce the big blast. They also cause radiation poisoning, that can cause problems such as cancers or genetic issues and can be around for many years. These types of weapons of mass destruction let the U.S. possess weapons that are very capable of destroying cities and almost all of the civilians in it. This nuclear weapon allowed our nation the power so we can eliminate foreign enemies and mentally scare them. There was a Danish man by the name of Niels Bohr. This gentleman started the nuclear path by figuring out how to create atomic power. When the United States bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima, it was like the whole world turned into a nuclear arms race. Many questions arose from the initial bombing of the Japan cities Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The greatest issue facing nuclear weapons was the morality of the bombing by the United States on Japan to end WWII.

The major problem was that the United States was dealing with a huge issue during WWII. The United States, who had just defeated Europe still, was dealing with a weak Japanese military. The hatred of Japanese was extremely high in the United States mainly because of how they treated and tortured Allied prisoners of war and the unexpected attack of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. "The refusal of Japanese soldiers to stop fighting in the face of hopeless odds further strengthened the decision to eliminate the enemy" (Brower).

"A weapon of unprecedented power was available. But its use was no longer to deter the enemy believed to be developing its own nuclear weapons but to destroy an opponent defenseless against air attack and fighting a land war to the death. The U.S. government chose with little hesitation to drop the bomb on Japanese cities" One August 6 one bomb obliterated the city of Hiroshima, killing over 100,000 people; a second destroyed much of Nagasaki on August 9. The world had entered the age of the nuclear war" (Brower 25).

There was so much destruction and devastation after the blast. We asked ourselves was this the proper and moral way to execute this mass killing? Was this what we needed to do to win the war against the Japanese? the whole world after that I believe feared us we created a weapon so powerful to demolish cities at the time it was so major now there are so many different types of wmd's that are so much more powerful that the atom bomb. I like to think that we were the ones, who brought it on ourselves,
