Barack Obama: The first

Barack Obama was the first black American president of the United States. He came into office with experience as a State senator and Senator both in Chicago. Elected in 2009, he became the 44th president of the United States. He made many great accomplishments in office merely adding to his reputation. Obama helped rescue the nation from the great recession, signed the Affordable Care Act, while also ending the war in Iraq.

Barack Obama proposed and $787 billion economic stimulus package. This ended the Great recession by spurring consumers spending. Its main goal was to save between 900,000 and 2.3 million jobs. The Stimulus package aimed to restore the trust in the finance industry by limiting bonuses for senior executives in companies that received the Troubled Asset Relief Program funds. They designed the Act to spend $720 billion, or 91.5 percent, in its first three fiscal years (FY). It allocated $185 billion in FY 2009, $400 billion in FY 2010 and $135 billion in FY 2011. The economic stimulus bill was supposed to save 900,000-2.3 million jobs. As of October 30, 2009, it saved 640,329 jobs. These figures are from the most recent report. The Recovery Board stopped estimating job creation after that. Another economic achievement he had was signing off on the Affordable Care Act.

The Affordable Care Act(ACA), also known as Obamacare had 3 primary goals: Make affordable health insurance available to more people, expand the Medicaid program to cover all adults with income below 138% of the federal poverty level, and support innovative medical care delivery methods designed to lower the costs of health care generally. Obamacare works by mandating that everyone get health insurance or pay a tax. Obamacare changed health care by making insurance available to 32 million more Americans, or 95% of the legal population. After the first 10 years, the Act would cost $940 billion. Obama had achievements outside of economy such as ending the Iraq War.

Obama followed Bush into the White House determined not to let his presidency be defined by war, especially not the one in Iraq, which had already cost more than 4,000 American lives and tens of thousands of Iraqi lives, when he took office. On Aug. 31, 2010, President Obama told the American people he wanted to talk about "the end of our combat mission in Iraq." More than one year later, the last U.S. convoys left that country. (Sarah Parnass/The Washington Post) Obama also went on to order the assassination of Osama Bin laden, founder of the Pan-Islamic militant organization, al-Qaeda.
