Don't Celebrate It, Mourn It

In my opinion 1492 should be both Mourned and celebrated.The conquest of the Americas has certainly been a huge step for civilization of the continent. With the accidental discovery Columbus brought a new way of living, compared to europa America was really far behind in term of discoveries,armory and politics.

Although1492 should be mourned by all the true Americans. Columbus made a massacre of the Native Americans for the search of gold; Americans were enslaved to collect a certain quantity of gold every 3 months and if they could not find it, because of the scarcity of gold in the region, Americans had their hands cut of and bleed to death. They were also placed in rows of 13 ''in honor of the twelve apostles'' and killes. Therefore the discovery of America it can not be considered good part of the history of the western continent.

The considerable number of people killed, almost half of haiti at the time, some killed some committed suicide by eating poisoned roots,it is not the only reason. After 1492 America lost the identity of the territory, Native americans are almost completely extinguished, and after columbus it has always been colonized by powerful countries, such as Spain and Portugal and England.

The genocide provocateur by Columbus it is not know as mush as the other genocides in the world history but it is as important as the others. Therefore i disagree with the celebration of the Columbus day i the Usa. I think 1492 should be celebrated as the beginning of an History the made America one amog the fist powers of the world. It should also be moved by giving a minute of silence in American schools, for the considerable loss of Native Americans.
