The First Stone - Essay

Mistakes are tough. Once they are made, there is absolutely nothing you can do to repair the damage, no matter what you try. It is perhaps the most heartbreaking action someone can make and will be used against them in every way possible. In this society, we are defined by our actions, or rather all our mistakes. And Reef’s life is just exactly that. Once a single mistake is made, no one sees anything else but his faults. A massive label floats above his head ominously, showing no mercy to even his everyday thoughts. However, as much as mistakes may break you, they are even able to shape you into a better version of yourself. Mistakes have the ability to open thousands of previously closed doors and lead to a much brighter future, but at what cost?

The kickstarter of the plot of “The First Stone” was during the scene where he stands powerfully over the Park Street overpass, looking down at the civilians that are completely unaware of their potential doom. Reef disrespected him solely because he didn’t act his gender and vowed to antagonise him for all of eternity and understandably, Alex took into a position of defense. However, this didn’t last long as he slowly began to acknowledge and treat Alex as no one out of the ordinary, respecting his proper decisions and acts. Moreover, once he had started to volunteer at the center, he read to Stephen everytime he took a visit to try to calm him down and let the others peacefully rest. He
