Besides Cirque Du Soliel, which organisation serves as an example of the application of the Blue Ocean Innovation Strategies?

In the 70's, during the oil crisis, Japanese created a New Blue Ocean, challenging the USA automobile industry with small, efficient cars. Consumers worldwide turned to fuel-efficient and dynamic Japanese cars made by Honda, Toyota and Nissan. (Mauborgne,R. & Chan Kim, W. 2005.)

By differentiating their products, innovative Japanese entrepreneurs increased and extended their potential success. They re-oriented the product, change the borders of the target market, and carry out their ventures more effectively.

By applying 'value innovation' these companies eliminated the conventional American concept 'the bigger the better', reduced the luxuries, the prices and the sizes of the cars, improved the quality and added the new utility of compact, highly gas-efficient cars.

1) What are your views on globalisation?

* First of all, globalization promotes cultural homogeneity. Common demands, common consumer preferences and common information can lead to a mixture of cultures, but can also eliminate the cultural differences between civilizations.

* Another effect is that individual nations give up certain powers of law that their government had before join the European Union. As EU nations agree to a common currency they give up certain aspects of individual sovereignty. Yet, at the same time, globalization does not eliminate the need for government. Governments must make good efforts to reduce insecurity resulting from changes occurring too fast and to prevent social instability.

* Globalization increases the gap between the rich and the poor. An illustrative example is the economic crisis in Latin America in the late 90s: In Brazil 78% of population survived on less than $100 U.S./month/family. In Argentina as well, there was severe food shortage while many people was relying on the government for food supplies.

* Moreover, the economic crisis in Latin America generated economic problems in East Asia who suffered from a severe recession. Economic disaster in Latin America, Asia, and the economies of other emerging markets, due to globalization, affected the economies of nations around the world.
