Analyze the Impact of the Market Revolution 1815-1860 for Northeast and South

After the ratification of the constitution the two party system began to emerge. The founding fathers viewed these factions as mischievous. In fact, in George Washington Farewell Address he warned that political parties would be susceptible to corruption causing political parties to eventually destroy the government. The growth and development of the two party system occurring between 1790 and 1840 saw the emergence of the two-party system that continuously changed and contributed none to national unity.

The first political parties were the Federalists and Democratic-Republicans. Their ideals for how government should be run were different and let to no unification. Under John Adam's presidency would begin sectionalism which politics would support their region rather than our country as a whole. This would further hurt national unity. During the French Revolution the political parties in the Unites States were divided whether to support or oppose the revolution. The Federalists under Hamilton, supporting Great Britain, and the Democratic- Republicans, supporting France, would only further push the gap of American unity.

The war of 1812, the country would be divided between the south and west war supporting republicans the war hawks, and the Federalists who lost power when the US won the war. The Whigs rose in opposition of Monroe's successor Andrew Jackson. After being elected, Jackson asserted himself, vetoing bills and signing into law such acts as the Force Bill, in response to the problems caused by the Nullification Crisis. The Whigs easily gained support from southerners who hated tariffs being implemented. Changes in the voting process itself vastly enlarged the electorate. By 1820, most states had repealed wealth-based voting requirements, vastly increasing the electorate. This made parties pay attention to the common man, and gave much more voice to the people. Also in 1828 the "tariff of abomination" clearly showed that the division of political parties led to the division of America, in terms of national unity because the political parties had different sectional interests and not national interests

In summary, the political parties hurt the development of national unity in the period of 1790-1840. They divided the country into northern ideals and southern Jefferson based ideals. Because of the political parties there was no development in US national unity between 1790-1840.
