Archaeology: The study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts.

Neolithic Revolution: The Neolithic Revolution is the first agricultural revolution--the transition from hunting and gathering to agriculture and settlement.

River Valley Civilizations: the first complex, politically centralized civilizations began to crystallize independently along a number of river valleys.

Judaism: The monotheistic religion of the Jews, based on the laws revealed to Moses and recorded in the Torah

Christianity: The religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices.

Buddhism: A widespread Asian religion or philosophy, founded by Siddhartha Gautama in NE India in the 5th century B.C.

Hinduism: the predominant and indigenous religious tradition of the Indian subcontinent.

Asoka: Mauryan Dynasty ruler converted India to Buddhism and made stupas and pillars.

Mandate of Heaven: is a traditional Chinese philosophical concept concerning the legitimacy of rulers. It is similar to the European concept of the divine right of kings, in that both sought to legitimize rule from divine approval

Confucius: The philosophy of Confucius emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice and sincerity.

Legalism: Chinese political philosophy based on the idea that a highly efficient and powerful government is the key to social order

Daoism: refers to a philosophical or religious tradition in which the basic concept is to establish harmony with the Tao.

Filial piety: is one of the virtues to be held above all else: a respect for the parents and ancestors.

Civil Service Exam: are examinations implemented in various countries for admission to the civil service. They are intended as a method to achieve an effective, rational public administration on a merit system.

Foot Binding: binding the feet of young girls painfully tight to prevent further growth, status symbol

Geography of Greece: Fragment islands promoted political and cultural fragmentation

Polis: literally means city in Ancient Greek. It could also mean citizenship and body of citizens.
