China in Revolution

This documentary tells the daunting history of China from 1911 to 1949. The documentary is graphic and vivid. China had faced a lot of hardships in its history.

The middle of the documentary tells of the difficulties China faced when invaded by the Japanese. Not only did the Japanese control the Northern part of China but it was ripping through the rest of it. A story that stands out to me is of a man who, after the Japanese attacked his family, returned home to find his family. He tells of how he found his mother, grandmother and 2 sons dead and buried. This horrible situation was happening all over China and within 5 month the Japanese had obtained half of Chinas seaboard. The people of China refereed to the Japanese as "Devils " or "Japanese Devils." The names given tell of how the Chinese thought of the Japanese's and the fear that they instill in the country. The Chinese were being dominated and people of Nanjing began referring to the massacre as "The Rape of Nan King ." The main goal of the Japanese was to oust anyone affiliated with the Communist party. The motto "Burn all kill all loot all" was adopted by the Japanese as they ripped through China. In an effort to stop or at least stall the Japanese, the Chinese government made a desperate decision and purposely-flooded 11 cites. The Japanese weren't stalled, but the locals incurred damage. Many homes and businesses were lost and many people were displaced, if not by the Japanese then by their own government. All hope seemed lost until Pearl Harbor. When the Japanese attacked the U.S., the American government took up China as an ally, even though we were also in Europe at the time.

The leader of the republics wife had been making public appearance to hospitals to boost moral and even pleaded to the West for aid before Pearl Harbor but not until the U.S. did we show support. This is an example of a lot of U.S. involvement with war. Though people were being murder and victimized it was a priority until there was an American interest. This was seen in Rwanda during its genocide. The U.S. was officially hands off and didn't make amends until after 1994. Unfortunately politics is a business and unless its beneficially to get involved, the U.S. usually doesn't intervene.

Once the North was conquered, the Japanese began moving into Central China. Also the Communist began moving in Shanghai. In 1949 the Communist party dominated the war and gained control of China. They found the Peoples Republic of China and before forming the China we now see today.
