753 BC: Rome Begins

The city of Rome is founded by Romulus on the banks of the Tiber River.

264-146 BC: The Punic Wars

This was a battle between Rome and Carthage for control of the Mediterranean Sea trade.

264-241 BC - Rome gains control of Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily

218-202 BC - Rome gains control of Spain and southern Gaul.

149-146 BC - Rome destroys Carthage once and for all; gains control of Northern Africa

100-44 BC: The Reign of Julius Caesar

Julius was a very ambitious and aggressive man, he rose through the ranks of the Roman Army and eventually became a general. In 60 BC he formed a three-man alliance with fellow generals Pompey and Crassus to rule Rome. When he initiated his many programs which helped Rome's economy he also seemed to get a lot of support from the Plebeian Class; Thus making him dictator for life. One of Julius' last political feats was when he "adopted" his grandnephew Octavian as his political heir. Members of the Roman senate saw Caesar as a huge threat to the republic.

44 BC: The Assassination of Julius Caesar

During the "Ides of March", several Roman Senators, such as, Marcus Brutus and Gaius Cassius, led a conspiracy to kill Caesar. Right before dying Julius said, "Et tu Brute?" which translates to "And you too, Brutus?" to his son, who killed him.

27 BC-14 AD: The Reign of Augustus Caesar(Octavian)

Augustus became the first Roman Emperor. He started the "Pax Romana" in his first year of power. He vastly enlarged the Roman Empire. Before he came to power Octavian had a 2nd Triumvirate in 43 BC. He had alliances with Marcus Antony(Greece & the East) and Lepidus(North Africa), Lepidus fell early, and in a fight for power Octavian and Antony had a civil war in the 31 BC. Octavian came out victorious, this led to his empowerment.

4 BC-33 AD : The Life of Jesus

Jesus grew up in Nazareth in the Roman province of Palestine. He first appeared as a preacher in 27 AD in Palestine. Jesus was eventually crucified because of his beliefs. His disciples were really the only reason his word spread. One disciple known as Paul had never met Jesus, but he had spread the word throughout the Roman Empire.
