95. Summarize the impact of the industrial revolution on the American labor, on the rich and poor, and on families and home life.

The industrial revolution changed the American labor force and the thin line between rich and poor, and lastly families and their home life. The American labor force went from small owned businesses to large factory type businesses. The first workers were seven boys and two girls. The craftsman ship went from handmade to machine stitched. The workers worked from sun up to sun down. The industrial revolution took children out the house and put them to work in rough conditions. The line between the rich and poor slowly dwindled because manufacturing and transportation advances helped all of the people in the United States not just the rich. Millionaires were becoming more common in this new Republic. In the cities unskilled workers most likely became "drifters". The esthetics of the American family was slowly changing. Women were starting to have fewer kids. Smaller families meant child-centered families. Now parents can have a deeper connection with each child. Also families in the United States spared the rod. They believed that the children should be shaped rather than broken.

It was created by Eli Whitney. These inventions help to revolutionize the southern agriculture business and northern industry. During the Civil War the Cotton Gin gave the North economic and technological superiority over the south. It helped the cotton business become 50x more effective than the handpicking method. It made cotton more profitable. Railroads were the big innovation in transportation. The railroad system was fast and reliable, cheap to construct, used year round, and could go through the Allegheny boundaries. The first railroad was created in 1828 and by 1860 the United States had 30 thousand miles of railroad. The telegraph was the biggest thing in communication during this time. It was created in 1861 by Samuel Morse. The telegraph slowly took out the Pony Express. The most revolutionary style of business organization was going from a small-scale to a large factory style company. It made objects more abundant. You could get your clothes faster than ever. All of the innovations were good but these were the ones I believed to be the most significant developments. All of these inventions
