Lennie and Georges relationship is different from everyone else in Of Mice and Men, By John Steinbeck. Thy are an unusual pair; Lennie is a man of strength and also has the mind of a child. George is basically his care giver and mentor. George feels he needs to look out for Lennie and takes the role of a protective parent. George couldn't always defend or shelter Lennie, no matter how much he taught him. The main idea of this research paper is to talk about how George and Lennies relationship is different from all the other characters in the book. For example: George always gets Lennie out of bad situations he creates for himself. " jus' wanted to feel that girls' dress--Jus' wanted to pet it like a mouse.." (Steinbeck 11) Lennie doesn't know right from wrong. The girl he was "petting" thought he was talking to her inappropriately. So George had to go on the run with Lennie to save him from the brutal consequences of his actions.

The characters are lonely because although they are all together, they all feel as if they were indeed on their own. For example: Lennie is with George all the time but Lennie always feels on his own and is scared George will leave him and is always seeking his approval as a child would. George and Lennie do not see themselves as lonely as the other characters do because they have each other and a dream to go away one day together. " with us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. We don't have to sit in no bar room blowin' jack jus' because we got no place else to go. If them other guys gets in jail they can rot for all anybody gives a damn. But not us". ( Steinbeck 14)

George and Lennie are two different men, physically and mentally. In spite of their differences they still manage to be the best of friends, work together, and travel with each other. Their differences is what makes them so close. On one hand you have George who is very smart, strength with a soft heart. " but not us ! and why? Because ... because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why". (Steinbeck 14)

Lennie and George are friends who care for each other. In the book, Lennie and George are basically one another guardians. By this I mean Lennie's aunt Clara asked George to care for him. George clearly is a nice guy and just could not say no. He feels he needs to look out for Lennie and takes the role of a protective parent."Lennie for god' sake don't drink so much." (Steinbeck 3) " Lennie. You gonna be sick like you was last night." George sometimes gets aggravated with Lennie and says somewhat of hurtful things to him but then feels guilty and makes him feel better. Like I said before, Lennie does not know how to act like a normal human being. " So you forgot that awready, did you? I gotta tell you aian, do I? Jesus Christ, you're a crazy bastard!" ( Steinbeck 4) I cited this as an example to show how George sometimes talks to Lennie. Another example would be: " blubberin' like a baby! Jesus Christ! A big guy like you." (Steinbeck 9) Lennie was whining because George would not let him keep a dead mouse he found an the side of the road. George has a heart thought so he told Lennie he could find a live one and keep it for a little while if he does not kill it. " I ain't takin' it away jus' for meanness. That mouse ain't fresh, Lennie; and besides you've broke it pettin' it. You get another mouse that's fresh and I'll let you keep it a little while." (Steinbeck 9)

Both Lennie and George have each other to live off of. Once they both earn a big savings, they can combine their earned money to get a house together. Lennie is so excited about the whole idea, especially about tending to the rabbits. "O.K. Someday- we're gonna get the jack together and we're gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an' a cow and some
