A Personalized Induction will always be more effective.

I personally think that a personalized Induction will always be more effective because the

practitioner will have more in-depth insight into the client's particular needs as an individual, as

in fact we all programmed on different levels - different courses for different horses, as in fact we

are all.. The practitioner, due to his/her more detailed personal information about the client, will

also give the client more confidence and self worth and so hopefully enable the client to be more

receptive to the practitioner's suggestions. There has to be trust between a client and the

practitioner. T his is the preliminary requirement before any suitable course of treatment can be

commenced . People without any experience of an induction may be fearful, or uncomfortable.

I should imagine there is a feeling of losing control, of being vulnerable - perhaps the fear of

saying something which they have never disclosed to anyone for fear of being judged by family,

friends, etc.

The practitioner has to convey the positive effects of the hypnotic induction, and that it is

compliance with the hypnotist's motives, distorted by a quest for personal aggrandizement. The

practitioner has to show confidence about hypnotic treatment or he will not be able to project

a positive attitude, or be able to function with true conviction Carl Rogers believed that by

making sure three of the core conditions are present when counselling , then helpful change will

take place, regardless of any other conditions being met - he believed nothing else is necessary.

These are empathy (seeing their world), u.p.r. (non-judgemental), and congruence (genuiness

from the client's point of view). Effective hypnotists will;-

1. Encounter each client as a unique individual whose problems should not be quickly categorized.

2. Have the ability to identify problem areas, assess there severity, and determine the type and scope of induction that is to be used for treatment.

3. Be perceptive of the client's emotional needs.

4. Maintain an objective view of the hypnotic experience.

5. Keep personal problems or aspirations from distorting the treatment.

6. Accept and deal with emotional displays that arise during treatment. .

The practitioners appearance is important, it can influence how another person feels. I t is safer to

dress neat but casual, so the client will feel more at ease and comfortable in your company. The first

time that you meet your client begins at the door. A feeling of comfort and peace should be conveyed

as your client may be nervous and unsure of what to expect - or he/she may have had a hectic day.

You should speak in a calm, well modulated voice and move quietly to give the impression, "Everything is under control here, I am peaceful, things will move calmly". By relaxing your client

the moment you meet, you will have begun a relaxation process that will lay the groundwork for the

actual induction ahead.

During the first interview, you will listen and gather information concerning the client's problem,

the more fully you understand the causes of a problem the better you will be able to define and resolve

it successfully, and so active listening must be employed. When the personal induction interview is

completed the client should feel relaxed, confident and eager to begin, all of their questions answered

You have educated the client about hypnosis, delayed his fears, he has confidence in you and he is

positive that it can help him with his problem. The way you ask a client to respond to any suggestibility test, greatly influences the clients receptivity to hypnosis. What is said, and how it is said, strengthens the impact. Skilled and artistic use of such a test should build on all the ingredients of the hypnotic

formula (belief, imagination, expectation and conviction) and replace perhaps fear of hypnosis with comfort and confidence. You have not supplied him with any kind of success rate

because with all the positive thoughts in his favour he will hopefully be his own success with the

right personalized induction for him. During the first interview you have to allow sufficient time to

define the problem, the causes, by asking when, where, with whom, and under what conditions a syptom occurs. New patterns may be established.

How the client appears to you as a practitioner is important. How they behave, their personality,

are they at ease, do they look you in the eye, or are they avoiding your glance. All these things

have to be monitored to enable you to build up a picture of the person you are trying to help. When

an induction is personalized you can tune into their language i.e. perhaps they call cigarettes, "fags"

or "ciggies", and so you can communicate on their level, which they will fine relaxing and on the

same level. The most important tool is listening and to comprehend the client's favoured map of

thinking. If you ascertain your client's modality you can talk to them in the way that they will feel most

comfortable when writing an
