KNOWING MYSELF

Every individual possesses a unique personality comprised of various traits. These traits play an important part in our lives as it influences the way on how we perceive our environment. However, before one can fully appreciate understanding other people, he must first be able to understand himself. The following shall be a personal analysis based on the results of the self-survey done in class.

First of all, I would like to discuss matters regarding self-esteem. The result in the survey categorized me as a person with an average self-esteem. Initially, I expected this outcome (or even a lower one) because I often notice the way on how I exert effort to be humble. I do this in order to avoid direct conflict with others which makes me somewhat a pacifist. However, I do not give too much way to others wherein I will become trampled or left voiceless in the end. I guess that this can be considered a healthy level of self-esteem because I allow myself to become open-minded and at the same time I protect my ego whenever threatened.

        Second, regarding the Locus of Control, I am slightly worried about the score I received. My score lies somewhere between those who have low internal Locus of Control and those with an average Locus of Control. I think that this has something to do with my social identity, specifically my religiousness. There are a lot of times wherein I credit the good things that happen in my life to God such that I give Him control over my way of life. This simply means that there is still control in my lifestyle but I do not always take credit for whatever happens to me. Since I believe that there is still control in my life, it is very unlikely for me to develop learned helplessness. Instead, I believe in having self-determination as I recall times when I was able to improve my situation, especially in academics.
