Max became numb when he those six words. His heart felt like it was going to pop right of his chest and land in the street, lying there until it was ran over by a car. Why didn't Amy like him anymore? Why wasn't he good enough? Things were going so great, what happened? It was only about a month ago that their mutual friend, Christy, tried to play matchmaker and show Amy that he was more than just some idiot jock. He had feelings and he really liked her. Christy had showed her that they balance each other out perfectly, she's a very calm and subtle girl, while Max is loud, outgoing and could bring the best out in her. Amy was convinced after they made a list of everything they both had in common, that maybe giving him a shot wouldn't be too bad.

Throughout all the mess that happened, Hayley, Max's best friend since birth, was always there. She would comfort him and seemed to always make him feel better when he was down. He wouldn't talk to anyone else because he knew he could talk to her without being judged or looked at as a wussy. He was sensitive and didn't want the guys on the football team to know that, otherwise they would be sure to give him crap about it. Thus, the reason he turned to Hayley for everything. She was great at always being there and would come over at any time in the night to just have long talks with him. He was grateful for a best friend like her.

The days to come after the breakup was devastating for Max. He started to become so depressed that when his parents ever made food, they ate just the two of them because he was never hungry. After a week of not eating, Caleb, Max's Dad, decided this was beginning to be too much and decided to send him to a Psychologist. His first visit to Dr. Hiccup was very awkward, but after an hour or so everything just came out of his mouth. He told the doctor everything and Dr. Hiccup suggest he take it easy and eat food little by little until he became comfortable again. He also assured Max that if he didn't start eating soon that he would not be able to continue to play football anymore, it was something that wouldn't be okay because of his psychical state right now. After hearing all of this, it pushed Max to try more because football was everything to him. The next night at dinner, Max could feel his parents watching him, especially his dad. Caleb was just so worried about his son, he didn't want to watch him deteriorate into nothingness. He wanted the old Max back, the one who seemed to always be happy and invigorating.

When they were dating it seemed as if everything was perfect, at least in Max's eyes. In Amy's it was a whole other view. She started to like Max, she really did, but there was just little things about him that got to her like the way he seemed to always have to be around her and always texting her and knowing where she was. He came off as very clingy and that's not the type of boys Amy was into. Plus, she was scared of commitment and getting her heart broken because she had seen her mom go through only about a million times while she was growing up. She didn't want to follow down the same path and become a person who
