The definition of organizational psychology is a study that uses a type of scientific methodology in order to help understand individual's specific behaviors in group setting that involves organization. There is organizational psychology but there is also industrial psychology which is the study or principals and methods of psychology in the workplace. Understanding how people work, what motivates them and provides a more effective, efficient, and productive environment. When all of that is achieved, the positive results are more financial stability for not only the company, but also for employees. It can help with increase investments and an increase in pay. This helps to also create more jobs, this helps with the employee morale and it benefits the community.

It would be hard to fathom that research and statistics would be involved in organizational psychology, but it does. Researchers in organizational psychology pose various questions, in posing these questions they come up with data. All the answers given to those questions posed by researchers are collected and documented. Researchers collect and archive data found in their research of organizational psychology but they must make sure that nothing interferes with their findings that could affect the legitimacy of their research they are conducting. Statistics also is a very important part of organizational research. It helps researchers develop tendencies or probability; you take the information or all the answers and add them up. Once there is a sum it is divided by the total number of answers to find the average. Meta-Analysis is considered to be a type of statistical practice for summarizing or reviewing the research. With this type of research, many questions can be researched and it will provide an overview of the topic that is being examined. Advantages of Meta-Analysis is that it will show if results are more mixed than what was originally assumed from the samples given, deal with an overload of information, it can combine many studies and not be influenced by single studies. Disadvantages is that conducting several small studies will not give you accurate results such as a large study, research can be bias, weaker studies could be inserted into the research which would affect end results, and there could be agenda driven bias such as political, social or economic. Statistics can reflect the strength of the information such as the size of the sampling and the effect. Research and statistics are vital; however, they must be applied in the correct manner in order to prevent invalid results.

Patterns of behaviors or structures are created within the organization such as job descriptions. A job description is the official roles and responsibilities of an employee for a specific job. These are basically rules made to govern individuals within the organization so that individuals are prevented from doing whatever it is they want to
