"Holocaust" is a word of Greek origin meaning "sacrifice by fire." Adolf Hitler a Nazi was given power over Germany in January 1933. Hitler belonged to a Nazi group that believed they were racially superior over Jews and other races. Between 1933 and 1945 it is estimated that there were 20,000 camps used to imprison millions of victims. The Nazis established the first killing center in Poland, where six thousand Jews were gassed in vans daily. Jews were not Hitler's only target, Gypsies, minorities, Russians, and Jehovah's witnesses were also among the casualties. It is estimated that eleven million people died in twelve years which six million of them were Jewish.

One of the most devastating events of all time happened in Germany when Adolf Hitler decided that he wanted complete power over all people. Hitler believed that seventy-five percent of all communist were Jewish therefore they must be taken care of. He was very successful as everyone knows in getting his followers to do as he said. After the Holocaust only about 200,000 Jew's survived the horrific ordeal at the hands of Adolf Hitler. They had to be put in camps because they were homeless but they still believed in their religion. The remaining Jew's fled to the Middle East where they were more accepted. In today's society, the twenty first century, the third generation survivors have become very close to their grandparents and those that have survived the horrible event. They have been more open to talk about what happened unlike the second generation survivors.
