This essay aims to reflect on professional values and conduct through primarily focusing on professional behaviour towards other colleagues and the impact it has on teamwork. In order to do this, this essay will first of all define professional values and conducts.

Professional values and conducts are the things that influence the way in which we perform daily tasks. For example the General Social Care Council described professional values and conducts "as a list of statements that describe the standards of professional conduct and practice required of social care workers as they go about their daily work."(www.gscc.org.uk). These include respect and dignity, privacy, equal opportunities, being honest and trustworthy, honouring work commitments with an emphasis on teamwork and displaying professional behaviour towards work colleagues.

Teamwork is the way in which people behave towards each other to achieve a common goal. According to Belbin's Theory of Team Role teamwork is defined as "a tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way" (www.belbin.com). Therefore different people behaved in different ways. Belbin suggested that there were nine different types of team roles namely plant, co-ordinators, implementers, complete finishers, teamworkers, monitor evaluator, resource investigators, shapers and specialists. It is important to identify the dynamics of working in a team in order to preempt and avoid problems through reflection.

As a result of this, I will be reflecting on my role during my work placement and the impact it had on the team in meeting the workplace targets whilst focusing on the service users. Through Belbin Theory of Team Role I have identified that in a team role I am a co-ordinator. According to www.belbin.com a co-ordinator is someone who is "needed to focus on the team's objectives, draw out team members and delegate work appropriately." For example I had to assist the Children's Centre Teacher with the 'Wriggle & Rhyme" session. Whilst she was setting out the display, I would be arranging the tables and greeting the parents when they arrive with the children. In order to achieve the objectives for the session I had to ask the parents along with the children to get involve and assist with the cleanup process. As the session was overcrowded I also had to ask the Family Outreach Worker to assist us with the meal preparation whilst the activities were taking place. When my colleagues were busy I also answer the telephone and records messages and relate these to the appropriate person.

In conclusion the way in which we work underpin good work practice and this is developed through professional values and conducts. To develop these employees have to adhere to strict guidelines and also through evaluating
