This paper is designed to introduce a company called Luxottica. This is a company that is in the retail industry, specializing in sunglasses. Recently Luxottica has merged with one of the biggest sunglasses retails in the United States, which is Oakley. Once this merger went thru Luxottica has become of the biggest sunglasses retailers in the world.

Luxottica group was founded in 1961 by Leonardo Del Vecchio. He started off in a small shop in Italy, and he named his new company Luxottica. He made frames for the eye prescription industry. Leonardo Del Vecchino had a big year in 1971 when Luxottica first collection of prescription eyewear was presented at a trade fair. This marked Luxottica's transition from contract manufacture to independent producer. In 1964 he expanded into the whole sale business. In the mid 1980s the firm went international by acquiring Avant-Garde Optics in the U.S. In the 1990s Miriari of Japan was acquired.

Throughout the years Luxottica has invested a lot in their products. Beginning in the late 1980's prescription eyewear was not only for eye-sight correction, but designers began emerging accessories. This led Luxottica on their first collaboration with the fashion industry. From this big merger with the fashion industry they started gradually expanding business from high end designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, to house-brands such as Ray- ban to Oakley
