In what specific ways may an individual influence an organization through his or her management and leadership skills?

An individual can influence their peers, subordinates and superiors alike. If an individual is an effective manager, they can affect the direction that their department or even company may take. When an individual leads by example, they inspire those around them and gain the confidence from their superiors. Conversely, if an individual is not an effective leader, the direct opposite effect can occur. Individuals, who have good communications skills, give respect to others and consistently make and achieve goals that they set and are consistent at all of these skills, set the example for others to emulate.

When you have open and honest communication employees know where they stand and what is expected of them. This reassures the employee that if they do their jobs well and to the standard that is set by you, that they will be rewarded for their good work. This makes for an efficient department. Other departments or an organization as a whole may adopt this philosophy due to its success in that individuals department.

When a manager demonstrates a general lack of respect for his or her employees moral deteriorates. A lack of morale directly affects the productivity of a department or company and causes a higher turnover rates which increases cost to the organization. I believe that respect is one of the easiest ways to be an effective leader. It's nothing more than treating others the way that you would like to be treated and it costs nothing.

In an organization, goals are set for managers and in turn managers set goals for their employees. In order to be viewed as an effective leader you must achieve these goals. As an individual meets the goals of an organization their influence within the organization increases.

I believe that in order to influence an organization through whatever your management and leadership style may be, you have to produce consistent positive results. It would not matter that you met or exceeded a goal once if you were never able to meet it again. If you are unable to remain consistent you will have no influence in your department or in the organization. Conversely, if you are able to be consistent in all areas of management and leadership more than likely others in your organization will want to use your style of management.
