Impact of the Bible on My Life

The Bible has had a significant impact on my life, most noticeably in my later years. Raised in a Christian household, the Bible has always been a part of my life and never once have I doubted the existence of God, but I refused to let the teachings in the Bible play any direct roll in influencing how I wanted to live. This essay will attempt to provide a brief look into the impact the Bible has had on my life.

First, I feel that the major impact that the Bible has had in my life is that it forced me to take a good look at the direction that my life was headed and really think about if that was the path that I wanted to take. Financially and socially, I was doing fine, but there was an empty place spiritually that I was always aware of but chose to ignore. It was roughly this time that I met my future wife, who was without a doubt a various serious Christian and made it very clear the only way I could have any place in here life was if I put Jesus first in my heart and made many changes.

As I started my journey back to Christ, through my reading and studying of the Bible, my eyes were reopened to not only everything that I was doing wrong, but the love Jesus had for all of and the sacrifice that was made for us all. It was not that I was living a "bad" lifestyle, I just realized that by not honoring his sacrifice and trying to be obedient to his word, I was still doing myself and Jesus a great disservice.

From that point on, I have used the Bible to evaluate my relationships with other people, and where they were lacking trying in earnest to correct the mistakes that I had made. My views on how I treated myself, my family, friends and even those that I really did not like started to gradually change, coming in line with how the Word demanded that I should treat these relationships. Not only has it made me into a totally new man, it has allowed me to start passing these traits and beliefs down to my children, giving them a foundation upon which they can build and start developing a personal relationship with God themselves.
