Another Thorny Crown

The African American slave was the back bone of America. The slave works delivered us from a time of forced labor and poverty. The picture ''Another Thorny Crown'' shows a little black girl with a crown of cotton bushes wrapped around her head, and white make up on her face. The girl's facial expression shows anger. The picture could be related to the African Americans being freed from slavery do to the hard work of slaves. The picture gives an idea of a struggle won. The picture of Jesus with crown of thorns on his head on the cross is a battle won for the Christians. The girl could be the image of hundreds of years of a struggle won. The picture ''The Flag is Bleeding'' has the same similarity. The picture shows the American flag. In the background an older black woman bleeding with little black children holding on to her dress. The picture gives an idea of the back bone of America being denied or held back from the ideal America. The lady is holding the children and comforting the children, probably shielding the children from the grim reality of hatred. Both pictures real the hurt and pain, of what African Americans had to deal with, one from a modern day prospective and the other from a past prospective. Both pictures are shown as a struggle of the black community, a topic, of struggle that has hunted blacks since we touched down in America. The black woman is looked at to be stronger than black men. The pictures show black women being portrayed.
