The word ethics in any major businesses is one of the most important aspects of how the company functions properly. This is especially taken serious at General Mills Company. The code of conduct and policies procedure is 17 pages long and is very specific and detailed. What really matters is how internal as well as external factors come into play with the ethics code.

Ethics as an internal factor plays a huge role at General Mills. They really take this issue to heart and enforce every aspect of it in the company every day. According to General Mills, it was stated in their code of conduct package that every employee is responsible for abiding the law, policies, and company values ("General Mills", 2012). One of the first steps of this would be to act with integrity, this alone a stands for so much. Being able as an individual in a company as big a General Mills to be honest. If any instances come up where another employee is up to no good this shouldn't be something most people keep quiet about it, but feel comfortable with expressing the truth and still remaining safe and anonyms. General Mills provides an ethics hotline, this is a place where one can call and everything is kept confidential in case someone needs to report a situation.

Ethics as an external factor is far different. All employees are conducted with excellent leadership skills. Various large companies have not lasted as long as they hoped, simply because of the poor employee ethics. There is a sociological aspect of proper leadership; the employees must maintain a healthy state of mind. This is why, General Mills is a leading provider and having a extraordinary company to show for it is how well their employees value leadership roles, personal values, and partnership within other co-workers. (Thompson, Morelli, & Thach, 2010) Most major companies usually face issues like sexual harassment, public exposures, and hostility in the work place. With a proper action plan and equal value system in place the likeliness of these problems to keep erupting is less probable. Other factors that come into play are the implantation of a plan that will safeguard employees and the company as a whole.

Building leaders to guide a path for future employees with only enhance the possibilities of growth. By instilling the proper value system and ethic value in our employees as of now will keep General Mills from having to go back and fix these problems later on. General Mills conducts itself in an ethical manner because it is vital to our company that the core runs smoothly as well as the rest of the functions.
