Ghost dances

Physical skills analysis

1. Throughout the ghost dances the physical skill balance was used to prove the skeletons power over the Chileans. An example of when skeletons used balance was when the skeletons balanced on one another to show strength and power. Another example of when they use balance was when they were picking up the victims and balancing and holding them with their arms and also showing strength. Balance was used to help prove the skeletons expressive intention and to prove their power over the Chileans

2. Flexibility was used throughout the dance piece to show death amongst the Chilean civilians. An example of when flexibility was used was when the unmarried women was killed and was lifted above the unmarried man's back and gradually falls into a long stretched out back bend into the skeletons arms. Another example of when flexibility was used in the dance piece was when the skeletons were picking up the Chileans in the '3 couples section' and throwing them around while Chilean victims were kicking their legs in the air both of these examples of flexibility were representing the death amongst the victims.

3. During the dance piece 'Ghost Dance' coordination was used to help express Chilean life through folk dancing. An example of when coordination was used in the dance was in section 4. The flirty boy used coordination movements when he was showing off to the young girls and using movements involving arms head and pelvis. Another example of when coordination was used was when the Chilean civilians use small fast controlled foot kicks and taps, bull pose which is a large demi plea' in second. The control of these movements are using the skill coordination, representing the story of the Chilean's life through folk dancing.

4. Control was used throughout the dance section 'married couple' to help express the incident of the Chilean's history and to help express the emotions they went through. An example of when control was used in this section was when the Chileans used strong and controlled dance moves such as a demi plea', conjoined head and arm movements, fast and slow turns and then controlled with a landing. These movements throughout this piece really showed the audience their feelings and emotions and could contradict what the married couple were going through.

5. During the section 'unite' the stamina felt slow but strong and very meaningful. The stamina was recognized to be low to medium. The choreographer's intention that was shown through stamina was to show the audience the feeling of them being strong and to show they have courage to never give up and not be intimidated by the skeletons represting the corrupt government.

6. The skeletons used strength throughout the dance piece to assert their power against the Chilean civilians.
