How Computer Affect Us

Today in this modern generation, technologies has made our lives lot easier which we enjoy a lot but every technology we develop, hides negative effects on our lives. As we look at technologies, many questions are raised. Does it really help us? Or does it affect our lives? Technology is the usage of machinery that makes our lives easier. And the most common example of it is computer. Computer is a machine that have been used for military and office purposes decade ago but now, computer is used as an essential technology for all types of establishments especially for indoors. Parents usually buy computers for their children's educational purposes but teenagers, who always seek fun activities around them to fight boredom, use computers to play games, chat with their friends or to surf anything under the sun. And before they know it, computer already stepped into their life.

"Today, over seven billion people across the world use computers and almost of them are teenagers." Teenagers usually use computers for their school or as a past time but teenagers almost spend their day playing computer games, chat with friends, etc that lead them to negative effects. And yet, parents, even aware from these issues, still buy computers for their children. Parents' main reason why they buy computers at home is for their children's education purposes especially for doing their reports, their assignments, etc but because parents usually have work at day, they leave their children unguided that lead them to negative effects such as laziness, vulnerable from viewing risky contents like violence/pornography, muscular or eye disorders like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Computer Vision Syndrome, and mostly, it leads to addiction.

Negative Effects of Computer:

Laziness is a common negative personality trait to teenagers, but it is also most common effect of computer. In this modern generation, technologies have made our lives easier. And another example of this is internet. Internet or often called, "Electronic Library" is mainly used for gathering information and for communicating but now, you can use it for chatting, gaming, shopping and much more. Come to think of it, instead of wasting time for looking any sort of information in dictionary, encyclopedia, newspaper or going to libraries, you can now just type it in search engines like Google in the internet and in a matter of seconds, you will get the results. "The internet has changed the way we live... Without a doubt, the internet has made life much easier." Because of the blazing speed it gives to us, it causes us to be rely ourselves on internet that lead us to laziness.

Another alarming negative effect of computer is being vulnerable from risky contents like violence and pornography. Parents usually have work at day that forces them to leave their children either unguided from using computer or vulnerable from viewing risky contents like violence and pornography. Because of these, teenagers are already exploited to the violence that parents feared off. Also will cause them to be open-minded for violence or for sex and somehow may cause them of be eager from these things.

Aside from these mental effects, there are also physical effects and these are muscular and eye disorders. One of the common muscular disorders we may get from overuse of computer is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? "The tight space between the fibrous band and the wrist bone is called the carpal tunnel. The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel to receive sensations from the thumb, index and middle finger of the hand... Irritation of the median nerve in this manner causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index and middle finger - a condition known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome." Besides from muscular disorders, overuse of computer may also cause us to Computer Vision Syndrome or CVS which is an eye disorder that usually effect of too much exploit from computer or television. "This condition most often occurs when the viewing demand of the task exceeds the visual abilities of the computer user... The symptoms can vary but mostly include eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision (distance and/or near), dry and irritated eyes, slow refocusing, neck and/or backache, light sensitivity, double vision and color distortion." Therefore being aware from these issues may help you to struggle the negative physical effects of computer.

Last from the list of negative effects is the computer addiction. Computer addiction is the most common and yet most dangerous effect of computer because it will not only affect your mental health but also your physical health. "Computer addiction can have a variety of negative effects on a person. The most immediate is social. The user withdraws from friends and family as he spends more and more time on the computer. Relationships begin to wither as the user stops attending social gatherings, skips meetings with friends and avoids family members to get more computer time."
