Competitive Advantage with GDM

It was not conventional GDM which has actually turned around Infosys, but what I felt that improvisation of GDM or say Infosys used Kaizen to improve upon GDM competitive edge by way of making it more available and putting in use its experience for new projects. Let's analyze few points which have given Infosys competitive edge:

 Expansion of Global Distribution Centers

As per information, Infosys established 38 global delivery centers and almost 50% of them were outside India. It has given customers confidence for their critical projects and given them a psychological comfort about Infosys strength in their own region.

 GDM Plus

Infosys took a step further in value chain by introducing GDM Plus. It was a combination of IT services and consultancy. IT and consultancy services has given Infosys a edge over competitors by way of greater involvement in projects.

Infosys has become a one stop Shop for all needs of IT & its services.

 Using GDM experience

Infosys has immense pool of knowledge and experience, which it has earned during various projects. Infosys introduced generic products for area of banking, retail and telecom, by reusing its solution. It has also developed a tool called People Knowledge Map, which has contact information of the individuals who are experts in specific areas. Both of above efforts has helped Infosys to make deep inroads into various verticals.

 GDM - not just a resource base

Infosys has not seen its GDC as only resource bases, but also used technology processes and systems, enhanced capability of execution and increased quality of manpower. ISO 9000 , CMM, Malcolm Baldrige Framework, intensive training and manpower management efforts has give Infosys a upper edge which was difficult to replicate easily by any other service provider.
