Most of the companies are using advanced technology systems to support and boost their operational activities and overall business functions. E-commerce or internet is another revolutionary change which has been adopted by the most of the large and small companies to enhance their marketing influence, brand value and spreading awareness in market. Even after such adoption rate their also exists certain small and home based business which are still deprived of the benefits of the e-commerce or internet. Small and home based business houses are the last among the beneficiaries of e-commerce, but showing deep interest in adoption of ecommerce and acceptance of opportunities created by e-commerce. (Sandler & Boggs, 2000)

In such small and home based business category, there comes the Retail Jewelry Store whose efforts in implementing e commerce and internet based operations will be discussed in later parts of this paper. Local retail jewelry stores are considered to have lesser interest and potential towards implementation of e-commerce process within the organizational operational system. In consideration to the core business operations of the local retail jewelry stores it can be projected that core business activities involves selling of new jewelry, silverware or plated silverware, new sterling and latest design timepieces, etc. Thus this industry incorporates the companies engaged in sales of the jewelry products with combined services of repairing or engraving of jewelry products or timepieces (IBIS report, 2011).

As these retails stores has to face stiff competition from the vast variety of stores like High end guild stores, large retail chains, kiosk jewelry sellers and online retailers etc, thus proper insight about different aspects of adoption of e-commerce should have been achieved before commencement of such adoption. (Tenhagen, 2011) Different sections of the paper provides valuable insight against the market scenario, required efforts, estimated changes and potential benefits derived by the local retail stores through adoption of e-commerce.

Appropriate internet based business model with respect to creation of Web site:

In order to adopt and implement the e-commerce based business operations the local retail jewelry stores should have to realign its operational, marketing and business strategies according to the requirements of new technological implementation. As the most of the business operation of the retail jewelry stores are focused to providing varying alternatives of jewelry products and repairing or engraving services, thus the store website should have to be created on basis of information based business model.

In this internet business model, store website should have to be designed in such a way that it provides brief details about the store business operation history, its specialization (if any), product and service details through catalogue based system, details about current prices of the precious metals, and stones, and alternative methods of making payment. In order to make the store website effective and meaningful it should be updated regularly to make it up to date with the ever-changing market and economic situation.
