Napoleon's Buttons:Explosive Molecules

Hye Rin Lee

The molecule cellulose is one of many where we have taken advantages to the capacity of explosive reactions, which we have altered. These properties have caused us both positive and negative effects to the earth. NO2 is in most structures of explosive molecules, where we increased our ability to wage war and change the fate of our world. Gunpowder was the first explosive ever invented that was used long ago in China, Arabia, and India. Nitrate salt, sulfur, and carbon were not recorded or given off. The gunpowder in carbon in the form of charcoal wood and gives the powder its black color. Roger Bacon is born in England, where we don't know when gunpowder went to Europe. He wrote about gunpowder and is much likely that he learned from a nomadic tribe, the Saracens. He must have been very aware of the destructive potential of it because his composition description was in a form of an anagram to reveal the ratio. This hasn't been solved for a long time until solved by a British army colonel. The chemical reaction for the explosion is 4KNO3(s)+7C(s)+S(s)--3CO2(g)+2N2(g)+K2CO3(s)+K2S(s). In 1300 to 1325 the tube iron loaded with gunpowder has been produced. A mixture of alcohol and water was produced a powder that can be used to different fractions. Urine was used as water. Gases and the fast expansion from the heat of reaction is the driving force of explosives. The explosion is used by the fast up in volume as gases form. Explosives give off heat, which is exothermic. Large amount of heat increase the volume of gases. In the equation on the right the molecules have less energy. The stable molecule N2 is formed due to the triple bond. Explosive reactions must be extremely rapid. If it goes slowly then the gases would diffuse into the surroundings without the violent pressure surge, damaging shock waves, and high temperatures characteristic of an explosion. The oxygen that's required reaction has to come from the molecules that is exploding. Isomers are compounds that have the same chemical formula but different structures. The wavelength of absorption impacts the variation in the number of bonds or atoms. The explosiveness of a nitrated molecule depends on the number of nitro groups attached. Sobrero experiment made a big headache that showed dilation of blood vessels caused by nitroglycerin. The Nobel Prize was given for nitric oxide in the body.

Alfred Bernhard Nobel, Swedish chemist, inventor, and philanthropist, born in Stockholm. After receiving an education in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and in the United States, where he studied mechanical engineering, he returned to St. Petersburg to work under his father, developing mines, torpedoes, and other explosives. In a family-owned factory in Heleneborg, Sweden, he sought to develop a safe way to handle nitroglycerin, after a factory explosion
