Definition

Physical wellness involves aspects of life that are necessary to keep yourself in top condition. Optimal physical wellness is developed through the combination of beneficial physical activity/exercise and healthy eating habits. Elemental components of physical wellness include building muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular strength and endurance and flexibility.Developing physical wellness empowers you to be able to monitor your own vital signs and understand your body's warning signs. You'll understand and appreciate the relationship between sound nutrition and how your body performs. The physical benefits of looking good and feeling terrific most often lead to the psychological benefits of enhanced self-esteem, self-control, determination and a sense of direction.

While physical well-being is essential to health, the term wellness when used by health professionals, has a much broader meaning. In fact if you are studying how to become an accountant, or a nutritionist, it is important to understand how the two concepts of wellness and health fit together. Think of an automobile and how the transmission works in it. Having a disease or an illness can be compared to putting an automobile in reverse. Absence of disease or relatively good health would put your car in neutral, and positive health changes and steps toward wellness would put your car into drive or forward motion. When your lifestyle is based on health enhancing behaviors, you're in high gear and going at top speed and you've achieved total wellness.

In wellness, health and sickness may show a considerable overlap in the functioning of the mind, body and spirit. In recent decades, scientists have shown a major role in psychological factors enhancing physical well-being and preventing illness. In addition, they can also trigger, worsen, or even prolong physical well-being by preventing illness. Unfortunately psychological symptoms can also trigger, worsen or prolong physical symptoms. The mind clearly can have a profound effect on every aspect of physiological functioning. Individuals who are chronically angry, pessimistic, anxious, worrying, or depressed are proven to be more susceptible to stress and illnesses such as heart disease and cancer. Similarly almost every medical illness affects people psychologically as well as physically. An example of this would be depression. It is commonly shown that individuals who suffer kidney failure or neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease also suffered from depression. Understanding the various dimensions of health can help you appreciate the complex interactions of your body and mind

Explain

-Physical Wellness is integral for health and a part of the 7 Aspects of Wellness. Physical Wellness involves a variety of activities that support your physical well-being. Exploring Physical Wellness isn't just about trying to lose weight, although that may be a part of your specific Physical Wellness plan. For optimum Physical Wellness, everyone needs to practice good health habits that include eating a healthy diet, participating in regular exercise and physical activity, performing regular hygiene routines and getting adequate rest and relaxation. Physical Wellness fosters a healthier body that is able to run more efficiently, and it also helps you feel better physically as you explore your health in other wellness aspects.

The importance of Physical Wellness and the effect it has on our Emotional Wellness has been known for years, but few people realize just how important Physical Wellness is to a balanced life. Diet, exercise and rest have a profound effect on how we feel emotionally. Exercise is also a great way for some people to connect to their Spiritual Wellness (e.g., practicing Yoga, Tai Chi, or another mind/body activity). Exploring Physical Wellness together can help people build healthier relationships for Social Wellness, and going for walks outside will increase your Environmental Wellness, too. Total health reaches far beyond Physical Wellness, but adequate Physical Wellness provides a good foundation for a whole and complete life.

-Physical Wellness is one of the 7 Aspects of Wellness, the major life areas that need our attention for total wellness and a full, complete lifestyle. This wellness aspect is an essential factor in how we feel, and it is vital that we all engage in Physical Wellness activities if we want to feel good about ourselves and our lives.

Everyone has different ideas and experiences when it comes to Physical Wellness. Some of us don't think about it at all. Some of us set unrealistically high standards for ourselves and give up when we don't meet those goals. Some of us make attempts to get more fit and feel healthier, but we find we don't have the time or the patience for a regular routine. Others of us want to practice healthier habits but don't know where to begin.

List of quick and easy tips to enhance Physical Wellness routine

-Drink plenty of water. This tip shows up everywhere, and with good reason. Most of us know we should drink water, but we don't. We drink tea, coffee, juice, and of course, plenty of soda. None of these can match the health-enhancing power of water. Why drink more water? Water is essential for every bodily function, because we're actually made of 70 percent water. Not drinking enough water can lead to various health problems including constipation, dry skin, weight gain, nose bleeds, headaches and sinus problems. Our cells need water to remove waste and assimilate nourishment. If we're engaging in regular physical activity, water intake is of particular importance. The more we sweat, the more water we lose, and we've got to make up the difference. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses a day--more if you can swing it. And no, diet soda doesn't count!

-Get moving. We all know that regular physical activity is necessary for fitness. It's also essential for our emotional health. Of course, there are those of us who love working out, but many of us prefer a nice long evening on the couch at the end of a hard day. Some of us would argue that we'd love to exercise regularly, but we simply don't have the time. But physical activity comes in all forms. Recent research has shown that walking in 10-minute bursts throughout the day can have the same heart health benefits as 30 minutes of continuous walking at the same pace. So, take a short walk first thing in the morning, at lunchtime and after dinner. Exercise has a cumulative effect, but the key is consistency. For optimum Physical Wellness, it's vital that we each fit in a minimum of 30 minutes
