Professional Development for Strategic managers

1.1 Effective Management Skills

There is no magical and particular formula to effective management skills. This is all about continual learning process and you will never reach a point when you can say you have learnt all you need to learn.

Summary of some skills is given below,

1. Self-Awareness and Improvement:

"Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment." (Tao Tzu)

Awareness is the first step in the management process. As we grow in self awareness, we will better understand why we feel what we feel and why we behave as we behave. That understanding then gives us the opportunity and freedom to change those things we would like to change about ourselves and create the life we want. Without fully knowing who we are, self acceptance and change become impossible.

2. Planning

Plan for future is good and get from past is the best. (Armstrong)

Like first management skill planning is also a fundamental process in organisation. On the basis of planning, goals are directed, strategies are made, problems are solved and decisions are made. In this process we think about the particular activities at some specific level. In planning think is essential after making a decision we proceed towards organisational goals keeping in mind that planning should be time and cost saving.

There are lot of other skills which are also very important in the evolution of effective management.

1.2 Three Personal Skills

1. Problem Solving Skills

Being a good manager we should try our level best to solve problems rather than fix or leave them. We can give managers a range of techniques for problem solving and involving their teams using real life examples to plan actions back in the work place. We should work with others to identify talent and grow future leaders giving them the skills they will need to set and sell a vision.

2. Time Management

It is important that we should develop effective strategies for managing our time to balance the critical demands of time in organisation for specific purpose but also in many other aspects of life.

Sometimes it may seem that there isn't enough time to do everything that we need to. This can lead to a build up of stress. Once we have identified ways in which we can improve the management of our time, we can begin to adjust our routines and patterns of behaviour to reduce any time-related stress in our lives.

3. Decision Making

The toughest process in management is decision making. For effective decision making, we must be able to forecast the outcome of each option as well and based on all these concern items, determine which option is the best for that particular situation. In my own opinion we must think that we are capable to make a best fit decision in every environment. We should not be discouraged our selves at any stage.

1.3 Three Professional Skills

1. Communication Skills:

One of the most fundamental skills for effective management is our communication skill. Most people think that if they will be fluent in communication they will be good communicators, in my opinion fluency is not a big deal. We should focus to listen properly in order to get positive feedback. Non verbal aspects are also attached with communication skills.

2. Conflict Management Skills:

This is one another most challenging skill in professional environment. We must understand conflict's causes, styles, strategies, tactics, and world-views. We must understand theories of how and why conflicts arise, where and when conflicts habitually occur, and the range of strategies and tactics that may be utilized to manage conflict. We should develop skills in promoting constructive conflicts in organization and teams.

3. Negotiation Skills:

In our daily life we hear statements like this every day "This is expensive, what is your best rate". That means it is important to learn how to negotiate more effectively. Here are five strategies that will help you improve your negotiation skills and drive more money to your bottom line. We should identify the mistakes and try our best to overcome them with proper solution.

1.4 How These Skills Contribute

These skills have great contribution towards the success of organisation and individual success as well. They have vital role in setting the objectives. These skills motivate you and workforce to work properly and behave as well. Because our behaviour reflects our interesting in goals in professional way.
