Science Fair Project's Critique

Introduction and Background

This proposal states the need of the program, which is to create students who are aware of how science affects our daily life; however, it doesn't state the problem or the need specifically. For example, recently more than 1/3 students are not interest in science and many students don't understand the concepts of science. Relevant researches on current students' interests and attitudes towards science should be done first, and then followed by analysis of the situation. It will be good if the proposal explore the reasons and then prove the effectiveness of this project.

Project Description

The project description is very clear. It stated clearly:

* What this program is

* Who will participate in this program

* What characteristics of this program are

* How the fund will be used specifically

* Where is the performance site

Goals and Objectives

In the first paragraph, this proposal specifies two long term goals clearly. In the third part, which is objectives and aims, it explains the potential benefits in 8 different aspects. However, it will be better if it use bullet points because they would make it much clear and easier to read.

Implementation

This proposal mentioned some methods and procedures. For instance, it showed that a three-hour lab during the night time will be held once a week for the students, with teachers answering questions. It's a good example but missing the details on how we implement this project and the steps of the project. We need to explain how students can register this program, how the parents can be trained, and how teachers will be selected. Also more details should be provided on how teachers can help students. This proposal just used verbs such as guide, direct and encourage, which are vague.

Budget

The proposal breakdowns cost in a high level. It provides sufficient information about how the fund will be used.

Evaluation

The evaluation in this proposal covers some important aspects of the project, which are highly related. I suggest adding some more evaluations about students' interests in science and math from following aspects: Does this project interest the students in science effectively? Does this project solve the problem or improve the situation? Such evaluations will also be a great way to improve the effectiveness of the project.

Conclusion
