The U.S. government had two companies against each other in the race for funding and encouraging speed over safety. These two companies were the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific Railroads. The Union had just won the Civil War and slavery had been abolished but Abraham Lincoln, who played a big role in encouraging the railroad building, would not live to see its finished project.

This book gave me insight on the men who started out just like everyone else but showed their true traits of bravery and determination. They made our continent into a nation by all of the hard work they put in to building the transcontinental railroad. The railroad is very nice and cool.
