Water Scarcity

Most countries of world are facing a big challenge of water scarcity. A serious decline in biodiversity became a focus to people, but there is a severity scarcity of water which people can’t ignore. The scarcity of water resources, because the amount of water must be earth, the amount of drinking water is less, as unreasonable utilization and waste become more and more intense, water shortage problem has become increasingly apparent. (Encyclopedia Britannica, P.106) Water shortage can hinder agricultural development, endangering the world’s food supply. In addition, the water crisis, disruptive to the deterioration of ecosystem and biodiversity will be two serious threats to human survival. This essay will identify a major cause of water scarcity. It will also give some solutions to deal with water scarcity.

The major cause of water scarcity is excessive use of agriculture and industry moreover global warming. People have to pumping from aquifers that made Mother Nature exhausted. (Glennon, 2005) The released of carbon dioxide rising the earth’s temperature. (IPCC, 2011) This change have influenced water supply. Global warming decreased the amount of water in the reservoir. It also makes higher evaporation loss from the surfaces of lakes, reservoirs and rivers. The growing population is also a cause of water scarcity. The huge population will need more supply of water which may consume water resources more than before.

One option to solve water scarcity is expanding available supply. Building Dams can help people storage water resource essentially. Dams can reserve water when sky rains. So if there is a dry season coming, dams will ensure provide water at that time. During the rainy season or flood coming, dams can reserve the water to protect the downstream from disaster. During the summer or dry season, dams could release water that reserved before to the farmers or cities in need. Dams also can provide electricity with no power. It can bring a lot convenient, the offer electricity’s way is without any pollution so it is also a protection to environment.

The second solution is the reuse of municipal effluent and desalination of ocean water to drinking water. Nowadays, people waste too much water from household, toilets or showers. This municipal effluent is a huge number that discharge into a nearby river. The effluent could use to farmers who grow crops and cities that have used for golf courses. In addition, human can build a waste-water treatment technology to transform effluent to clean water. That will expand water supply to reduce the pressure of water scarcity. Also removes salt from ocean water to make it drinkable is a good way to make ocean useful.

A scarcity of water is a serious problem in the world. The sharply increased population makes the water exhausted. This essay provides two solutions to human to solve the problem. To summarize, building dams to reserve extra water and release in need. Reuse effluent to farming and transform it to clean water to expand water supply. Finally, government should appeal people to save water not to waste whatever people do. Everyone should focus on the water scarcity problem and live a green life. If human working together, the scarcity of water would be solved and earth will be better than before.
