Persons who pastor in churches across this nation and the world are in need of homiletical discipline. Preaching is just one of the many facets of pastoring. It is in the task of preaching the Word that time should be given to exegetical study. Many times the Word goes lacking because the emphasis of time with study is limited. Most often enough persons choose to find time rather than make time a priority for preaching.Finding time is one thing but making the time as a priority is quite another. The persons benefiting from this study and effort with time is the preacher and the congregants. It is without a doubt that a sense of accomplishment will be a blessing to the preacher who takes seriously the time for study. The word that is important in the emphasis of discipline is the word intentional. We must be intentional in our preparation and study. If we are intentional then we have an aim or goal we are trying to reach as we grace the pulpit. It is when we grace the pulpit during the worship experience that it will come together relying upon the Holy Spirit to be our guide. It is an offering we give praying and believing the Word will go forth with power.
