Andrew Carnegies Case

"not evil but good, has come from the acumulation of wealth by those who have the ability and energy to produce it." Andrew carnegie started out as a poor scottish immigrant who expanded the american steel industry in the 19th century. Carnegie quickly went from rags to riches (document1). Carnegie earned most of his fortune from his steel companyt, he later used that fortune and founded the carnegie steel company, after this carnegie was known as one of the captains of industry. Andrew carnegie donated a large portion of his wealth to scientific reserch, local libraries and educaition. Some would say this makes andrew carnegie a hero. A hero is someone who is self made, has financial success and concern for others. Andrew Carnegie can be classifyed as a hero because of his philantrophic endevers, buisness practices and relations with labor.

Andrew Carnegies philanthrophic views on wealth are one of the reasons he is considered a hero. Carnegie donated a large portion of his wealth to charitys. Specifically most of his donations went to charitys. For exampl, in document 9 it shows that carnegie donated a total of 100,000,000 dollars to education. One of carnegies most important philosophys waqs that the rich had an obligation to help the public with the surplus wealth. Carnegie believed that dying rich was a waste of money. In adition, in document 8 carnegie says "The man who dies rich dies disgraced.". Finally, it is evident through carnegies philanthrophic endevers that he showed concern for the public.

Carnegies buisness practices brought him significant financial success. Throughs states of depression carnegie was able to remain profitable. For example, in between 1883 and 1888 he was able to bring prices down, and production cost was less than the selling price (document 4). In adition, carnegies observation of the rich and the poor or social darwinism, were the rich prosper but the poor suffer and strugle to survive. this is prooven in document 2 were carnegie says "Not evil but good, has come from the acumulation of wealth by those who have the ability and energy to produce it.". not only does carnegie have financial succes through his buissnes practices but he also shows concern for others. Carnegie gives one of his close friends frankie financial advice and tells him "i would get out of it" (document3). This shows that carnegie has compassion for others which is a crucial heroic characteristic. Evidentlly carnegies buisness practices not only show concern for others but he also has tramendous financial success.
