1. How did the Apple know that the cell phone market would be a good opportunity? What important differences led to the success of the iPhone and the failure of the ROKR?
(a) The success companies like Motorola and Nokia in my opinion played a role in them wanting to challenge the cell phone market. The cell phone at that time had reached new height, technology allowed the cell phone companies to be to offer spec's such as text messaging, web browsing, music, photos, and videos; however the quality wasn't all the good.
(b) The difference in the iPhone and the ROKR is the iPhone has the functionality to operate as a phone, an iPod, and a mini-Internet computer all at the same time, where as the ROKR only had capabilities to function as a cell phone and an MP3 player with poor quality. Another advantage iPhone had over ROKR is that iphone has the capability to purchase music
2. Why did AT&T agree to partner with Apple? Could Apple have succeeded with another partner? Without a cellular partner?
(a) AT & T decided to partner with Apple due to the fact primary phone manufacturers like Nokia and Motorola already had existing relationships with cellular carriers, so they achieved a distinct advantage in the U.S. market, where cellular carriers dominated the distribution market for handsets. This was a good venture for both AT&T and Apple, though they couldn't come to terms on price in the beginning in the end it was a success for both companies.
(b) In my opinion no matter what company Apple would have partnered with the iPhone would have been a success, as the iPhone was innovative in that it had functionality that no other phone had at the time.
3. What kind of industry analysis did Apple likely conduct before releasing the
Iphone?
It is likely that did research on how to make the product simple and easy to use by most any customer, making it affordable, and easy to gain access to the product. Apple did all of these things by redesigning the buying process of the cell phone, this would make the purchasing process fairly easy for customers. They did so by making it possible to purchase the phone on line and providing no risk trails for the customer that wanted to come to the store to purchase the product. Their research also lead them to come up with simplification of giving the phone touch screen capabilities with was the first of its kind.
4. Do you think that the iPhone will continue to be a success? What environmental factors support your position?
(a) I personally think that the iphone will continue to be a success as
I am a have the iphone and absolutely love it. The iPhone is very user friendly, so much so that my two year old can use it with no problem. With the iPhone I can check e-mails, keep up with appointment, do home work, access the internet, take photos, and video all with my phone. The picture and video quality are great and I just love my iphone.
(b) With regards to the environment apple needs to work the some kinks out as it has been said that the iPhone has a danger chemical component the effect the environment and the health of its users. If Apple doesn't get this kink worked out this could potentially hurt the sell, and the use of the iPhone.
