Children of today are becoming more obese, for the fact that they are obtaining laziness. They are spending more time in front of the television then they are getting their daily exercise. The problem of childhood obesity in the United States has grown rapidly in the most recent years. Many people don't understand and don't know how to control obesity in young children. Childhood obesity can bring kids to have low self-esteem and many kids commit suicide and end their lives.

Many people, today, ask the question, what is obesity? A few extra pounds do not suggest obesity. A child is not considered obese until the weight is at least 10% higher than what is recommended for their height and body type. Obesity most begins between the ages of 5 and 6, or during adolescence (American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, 2010).

There are many different causes of obesity. The causes of obesity are complex and include genetic, biological, behavioral and cultural factors. When you consume more calories than your body can burn, then obesity will occur. When both parents are obese, there is a 80% chance that the child will be obese. Obesity can also lead to physical problems like poor eating habits, overeating or binging, low self-esteem, stressful life events and many more. Being obsess can have many risks and complications like high blood pressure, diabetes, increase in heart disease and more.

There are many of ways that obese children can be help. At the local head start, the teachers work along with the students because there are some overweight children and they have cut back on using different types of items to cook with, like salts, pepper and butter. They have also made it where we have workout equipment and the children get the opportunity to work and exercise. Other ways that parents can help their children with obese is limit television and video games. In today's society, children don't play outside like they use to. Running around and playing outside will help them remained active and health.

In conclusion, childhood obesity is an ongoing in the United States. Many children suffer for this day and night but parents need help to educate their kids and help them became healthier. Many parents need to open up their eyes and realize that obesity is very serious but it can be stop if the effort is made.
