Efficiency and Collaboration Proposal

This proposal concentrates on improving the efficiency of our current information systems used in the sales department. Choosing the right program is very critical for our sales department in order to maximize performance and accuracy. As you all know we currently use Microsoft® Excel® to track all personnel data, we would like to migrate to a relational database such as Microsoft® Access®. In a relational database, the organizations information is stored in various tables that are linked together by functional keys.

The usefulness of converting data currently held in Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheets into a relational database using Microsoft® Access® has many advantages. For example, there are currently seven employees in our sales department; Microsoft® Access® maintains data in a format in which multiple users can access the data at the same time. Whereas, in using Microsoft® Excel® we must share access to a workbook, yet the only the first user to access the information has the ability to make any changes within the tables. The major benefit of its usefulness would be that Microsoft® Access® uses data within the database and Microsoft® Excel® uses data within a workbook.

One benefits of using Microsoft® Access® in the work environment is the fact that it is user friendly. Other benefits would include the ability to create reports form same set of data to learn different things about the recording of sales and sales as a whole. Also allows the user to build reports to include only pertinent information as set forth by the rules set up to build the report. It locks the data to be edited only. This can be done in excel to yet the timeliness of doing so in not comparable. By converting the data we currently hold in our Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to Microsoft Access, we will be able to track different aspects of our business more effectively.

The field of sales is an ever changing field. In the coming future we will implement the continued use of collaborative software to help our sales department improve communication and streamline work processes.
