FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO STRESS AFFECTING INDIVIDUAL PRODUCTIVITY AMONG EMPLOYEES OF MINISTRY OF FEDERAL TERRITORIES AND URBAN WELLBEING

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the factors contributing to stress and its effect to the staffs of Ministry of Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing by asking the respondents to state their problems in their workplace and also personal problems (family and financial problems) in an open question format. This research was conducted by questionnaire. The aim of this report is to describe the causes of stress, how it is manifested in the workplace and strategies to reduce it among the staffs of Ministry of Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing.

Design/methodology/approach: A total of 120 questionnaires were distributed to the Ministry's staffs which include staffs from the Support Groups (clerks, chief clerks, personal assistant, executive officers etc.) and also from the Management and Professional Groups (Administrative and Diplomatic Officers, IT officers etc.). The questionnaire used Likert scales to identify whether the staffs experience stress and also to identify its factors. Data is analyzed using SPSS software by correlation, reliability test, t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple regressions. No personal information was collected and the survey was voluntary and anonymous.

Findings:

Research limitations/implications: Only 120 questionnaires were collected from the respondents due to time and budget constraints.

Practical implications: By identifying the source of stress among Government's staffs, it will provide guidance for the management in all Ministries to tackle stress level among the employees.
