Interesting Title

In my life, there have been several obstacles that I thought were impossible to overcome. I learned that when I stop doubting myself and just go for it; I accomplish more than I ever imagined. Removing doubt from our minds could open doors that lead to new possibilities.

The summer before my freshman year of high school, I decided to try out of the girl's field hockey team. At first, I was not too nervous, but as tryouts approached, a knot in my stomach grew bigger and bigger. I had heard many stories about the stringent coaches and difficult tryouts. In fact, tryout week was referred to as "hell week".

The first day of tryouts came. It was 3 o'clock on a Monday afternoon. The tryouts were held at my old high school in San Diego, California. About twenty minutes before it was time to leave, I double and triple checked that I had all my stuff. Once I knew I was completely ready, my sister and I got in the car and drove to the high school. On the way there, thoughts were flying through my head. What if I pull a muscle? What if I make a complete fool out of myself? What if my sister makes the team and I don't. Once we arrived at the high school, I took a deep breath in and got out of the car. When we got to the track, we gave the team mom our information and sat at the benches where the rest of the team was sitting. I looked around and saw the other girls that were trying out. It seemed like they were a foot taller and wider than me. I even think one of the girls had a faint mustache and a black eye. I thought there was no way I could get onto the team if that is who is trying out. The coaches told us how tryouts were going to work. We would be doing a lot of running on the first 3 days, and on the last day we'd focus on stick work. After stretching, it was time to run. We lined up on the track and in a few seconds, the whistle blew and we were on our way. At first I thought it was a piece of cake, but about half way through, I realized just how out of shape I was. I managed to run or jog the whole mile, but by the time I finished, my legs were killing me. Next, we moved onto stick work. I may not have been the worst player there, but I felt callow when I saw the varsity girls play. Lastly, we did some sprints. Each time I sprinted, I felt like there were 100 pound weights strapped to my calves. I practically had to drag myself through the sprints. At about five-thirty, the first day of tryouts was over. Once I got home, my muscles started to hurt and I felt like there was no life left in me. I took a long, warm shower, ate dinner, and then went to bed.

When I got up the next morning, my muscles were aching. I took some Advil and mentally prepared for the second day of tryouts. That afternoon, we went to the tryouts and I noticed there were about three less girls, and I didn't blame them for not showing
