Case Study 14 Paper

As stated in case study 14.1 a guest professor discusses his experiences at Copenhagen business school located in Denmark right off the bat he recognizes that their attitudes of work where distinct to those of Americans because they valued family along with their leisure this is not to say work was placed on the back burner but there was a finite balance between the both. Another trait that was acknowledged was this school was prominently recognized as a top ranking school for establishing quality of life and happiness of citizens by a means of promotion of physical and mental health. Which follows through to the last point benefit coverage. It is unfortunate that this theme is overlooked in America this lies in the fact that consumerism, greed, unemployed, budget deficits and debt are all contributing factor as to why the American workforce. The significance themes that can be applied according to Mumby is meaningful work, productivity of businesses in the workforce and to conclude work identity.

First, an attitude of work shall not go overlooked. “The Danish workforce associates their work ethic with a motivational cause for mortality.” (Danish, 2016.) According to a study that was recently done in 2010 the changing management of professional service organizations such as health services have been reformed. “Centered on the concepts of employees' involvement, empowerment and autonomy, a typical set of innovative practices includes: self-managed teams, job rotation, formal arrangements to discuss production problem; The Danish system is operated at municipal level through Employment Centres and is based on the principle of compensation, allowing disabled people the same opportunities to pursue a trade or profession as persons without disabilities.” (Health, Well-being & Productivity, 2015.) It’s relevant that the cultural values and practices revolve around the impact of organizational communication a sense of agency in having some form of control over how work is conducted. When someone experiences “a high degree of agency in their work their sense of self is confirmed and they feel directly connected to work being performed.” (Mumby, 2013; pg.334). What it means to adhere to a task essentially notes that “the defining moral aspect of what it means to be a professional is dedication to the task, not the clock.” (Mumby, 2013; pg.335). Enhancing our connection in our general relationships not those just associated with work. Work is not accomplished solemnly through fulfilling a task but through the communion developed in relationships with others in accomplishing those task. “This is a communal affair where we gain a sense of identity and connection from our relationships.” (Mumby, 2013; pg.336). “Personal development in the workplace leads to a feeling of stability and ontological security.” (Mumby,2013;pg.336.) Nevertheless, work is meaningful when it is recognized to a certain extent one must adhere to influence a member within their given culture we would hope talents and gifts contribute to the great or good. This can be through channeling inner knowledge, testimonials, volunteering and contributing to this world by reducing suffering in others. It is best said selfless acts serve for God’s greater purpose.

Next theme I would like to acknowledge is the promotion of physical mental health in the workforce this is on a basis to the productivity level of the organization. Changes in work according to Mumby “have transitioned to a condition in which our identity is not secured.” (Mumby, 2013; pg.338.) So therefore given the welfare of human is a relationship to the employee and job environment, a matter of personal health and lastly consisting of health and physical risks. “Technological discoveries and new responses of work place organizations have shifted to workers assuming increased responsibility along with more autonomy.” (Health, Well-being & Productivity, 2015). Despite the fact that this has led to increased productivity, flexible working practices have increased job demands. Competition contributes to evidence of wellbeing and work place productivity. “The issue is productivity is limited based on two factors abseentism and presenteeism.” (Health, Well-being & Productivity, 2015). Which refers to per cent work time missed due to ill health and impairment to while working due to ill health. It is not specifying simply the job role at hand but issues of management and workplace environment that contribute influence work health abroad. “A survey was done in the UK Health & Safety Executive placing an emphasis that lifestyle risk factors obesity and lifestyle changes influence productivity such as receiving less than 8 hours of sleep will effect overall performance.” (American Psychological Association, 2016) A second contributing factor included family or financial pressure in circumstances of suffering where unprompted events occur. Though “productivity is reliant on a basis of division of labor the connection is maintained through the operation of distinction not separation of different occupations.” (Mumby, 2014, pg.10.)
