Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India. Gandhi is a widely respected person in this world, with a special personality such as: He is a broad-minded, open-minded and so kindhearted.

He carry out to became one of the most respected spiritual and political leaders of the twentieth century, so he is well-know person over the world.

At 15 he became the leader of the Indian nationalist movement. Gandhi helped free the Indian people from British rule through nonviolent hold out, and is honored by his people as the Father of the Nation India.

The Indians called Gandhi Mahatma, meaning Great Soul.

Using the tenets of Satyagraha he led the campaign for Indian independence from Britain. Gandhi was arrested many times by the British for his activities in South Africa and India.

Altogether he spent seven years in prison for his political activities and Gandhi could stand up to the injustice of the British. Later this event, Gandhi can get along with the poor and oppressed people.

Also, Gandhi cheer people up with the social problem and stick up for people about their religions.

The people could count on Gandhi to make a free India. Gandhi do away with the violence to do a free India for this reason more than once Gandhi used fasting to impress people on the need to be non-violent and he was put up with all faiths and religious.

India became independent in 1947, and separated into two countries, India and Pakistan, which began after clashes between Hindus and Muslims. Gandhi stood for a united India where Hindus and Muslims could live in peace.

A January 13, 1948, at age 78, began a fast in order to stop the bloodshed. After 5 days the opposing leaders pledged to stop the fighting and Gandhi broke his fast. Twelve days later, on January 30, 1948, Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic who opposed his program of tolerance for all faiths and religions.
