NELSON MANDELA
Nelson Mandela was born on the 18th July 1918 in the country of Transeki. During his early career as a lawyer Nelson changed his job to a Political Activist. He was part of a banned political group called The African National Congress.
He decided to fight against racism. He hated the way white people and black people were not able to do the same things together. A black person could not ride on the same bus, use the same restaurants or toilets. Black people had to live completely separate from everyone else. Whenever something had to be cleaned or carried a white man would look for a black man to do it for them. They were slaves.
Nelson knew that this was wrong and that God made us unique and different for a reason. He wanted each person to be special. He showed great courage because he knew that standing up for his people and fighting against the Negro Campaign would mean he would be jailed.
Nelson was sent to solitary confinement for 30 years. When he was set free he won the African election and Nelson became President. He fought against white domination and it was a fight which he said he was prepared to die for. This showed great courage.
"Free At Last" was his first political speech. He told the crowds and the World that "this one of the most important moments in the life of our country. I stand here before you filled with deep pride and joy - pride in ordinary, humble people of this country. And with joy we can proclaim - FREE AT LAST".
Nelson showed, and we can learn that against all odds that if you believe in something you will succeed.
