Patriot or loyalist? This was a question frequently asked during the Revolutionary War period in Colonial America. Would you be a tax collector, well educated, follower of King George and Parliament (Loyalist)? Or would you be a separatist searching for independence from Great Britain (Patriot)? I would personally choose to be a patriot because they had more motivation to win, could not live without freedoms I have today, and because of the outrageous taxes issued by England.
Patriot is the right answer because they had more motivation to win. This is true because they were fighting for freedom in contrast to England and loyalists who was just fighting another war. This extra motivation helped them greatly because they weren't just fighting for their country they were fighting for themselves so they could live without worry of what new tax England was going to impose on them.
Secondly, patriot is the right choice because I could not live without the freedoms and equality I have today which would not be here if the patriots didn't rise up and revolt against Britain. These freedoms include the freedom of speech, press and religion. We would have no choice I what religion we would be or what people ran our government. This would just be intolerable by today's standards.
Lastly, I would be a patriot because the taxes that pressed upon the colonists were outrageous. What makes this even worse is the fact that they could not decide who was going to be deciding who was taxing them. Some of these taxes include the stamp act, the tea act and all of the coercive acts. If I was a colonist in those times I would have revolt as well if these taxes were pressed upon me and my family.
In Conclusion, I would be a patriot because they had more motivation to win the war, I could not live without the freedoms I have today, and the taxes by the British were outrageous. Also I would be a patriot because they are the people who made this country as great as it is today.
