This report is focused on proposition 215 . What's proposition 215 ? Proposition 215 is a Californian law focused in the medical branch concerning the use of marijuana as a treatment. On November 5, 1996 proposition 215 was enacted/ became a law in California. The proposition took a long process to get to where its located. With five million three hundred eighty-two thousand votes and four million three hundred one thousand nine hundred sixty against it-the proposition still made it. Proposition 215 was convinced by the San Francisco marijuana activist Dennis Peron. She agreed with proposition 215 in honor of his lover, Jonathan West-whom had used marijuana to treat certain symptoms of aids. Peron, began proposition p- the San Francisco medical marijuana initiative, which was passed by 79% of votes, but unfortunately prop p did not have force by law. Until 1996 proposition 215 began. Proposition 215 included a wide variety of law enforcement, drug prevention groups, and elected officials. This came to many peoples mind that probably saying yes to proposition 215 would cure and save many more people then usual. During the votes for proposition 215, ballot arguments began. Arguments against the proposition were signed by prominent prosecuters and law enforcement officials who had claimed that, while appearing well intentioned, it was an unclear, bad law that allowed unlimited quantities of marijuana to be grown anywhere. In backyards or near schoolyards without any regulations or restrictions and that it effectively legalized marijuana. The ballot arguments were signed by the following people: oncologist, a cancer survivor, a nurse, and two politicians. The assemblyman John Vasconcellos and the San Francisco attorney, Terence Hallinan, who wrote that he supported proposition 215 because he didn't want to send cancer patients to jail for using marijuana. These votes were much more then President Clinton or any other elected official got.
