Racism in the United States

Who has not been treated in a racist way recently? Almost everyone in their lives has been insulted by what they are or for what they believe. From kids in school making fun of each other to people that believe that they are better than someone else only because of their color or believes. One of the countries with the highest level of racism is the United States of America, and this is because there is so much diversity in this country that people start hating each other generalizing without giving themselves the time to meet and know different people. I have witnessed many forms of racism. One example is when I was younger; I used to play video games online and many Americans when they heard me speak Spanish with my brother they started insulting us. Another situation that I experienced was when I had the chance to meet and study with a group of people who are part of one of the most hated religions in the United States, the Muslims.

I have seen in my life many kinds of racist actions and words. One of the first things that I learned when I arrived to this country, was how all the people here call themselves only by the color of the skin or where they are from. From what I understood, black people are called "Niggas," white people are "Crackers," and foreigners are named "Speak," for the only reason that they are unable to speak English and they can only say "no speak." We can be friends with anyone because it is something we do not care about.

My first personal experience about racism happened when I was 15 years old. My brother and I used to play a war game called "Call of Duty." In this game it is necessary to communicate with teammates to create a strategy. We were speaking Spanish because my brother did not speak English. One American started screaming to us saying: "shut-up f***ing Mexican." I was so surprised that I even started arguing with this guy because we were not doing anything bad to him and he did not even know us. I told him that he did not have to be rude with us; besides that we are not from Mexico. I said that I was from Venezuela, but he did not care and kept talking "trash" about us. In that moment I was really mad. I was frustrated because I did not do anything to receive those kinds of insults. The treatment I received occurred numerous times by different players of all ages.

My second experience did not happen to me, but to a friend of mine who is Muslim. We were talking about the September 11th terrorists attacks and how it changed the lives not only of Americans, but also of all Muslim people. I started asking him how it was in Saudi Arabia, where he is from, when
