Responsibility of the Media

Responsibility of the Media:

The media has become a major factor of our times and the influence it has on people young and old. You would think that the world has enough influence all around them during their everyday lives and then we come home and turn on our televisions, pick up a newspaper, a magazine, or even the computer and it is all right there. Over the years the media has been more open and I believe that has a lot to do with the growing of our minds and our children's minds and they are just trying to keep up and keep people interested even though it may be a little risky to show no matter what station it is on. Although we still need to protect ourselves and our children from what they may see or hear on the television now and days.

This acceptance is becoming more and more apparent, in school and at home, but especially in the media today. I believe that one reason this increase is occurring is because people have grown accustomed to it being a form of entertainment and people are generally more likely to watch something involving violence than something without it. Violence, in essence, is part of the human nature and will most likely always be considered entertainment to some, and it is this fascination with violence and the fact that many believe that violence solves everything that I believe is keeping the human race back from reaching a new step towards true peace. Violence has been portrayed by the media in many ways and it is the shows that have a lot of violence that usually have the highest ratings. Not only in the newspapers and the major news television stations that are providing information to the world and some of us being so naïve and thinking that since it is the news it should be accurate being that they are nationally known and do not want to be sued for putting out false information; some of the media is so money hungry they find someone "close" to the person of interest and use whatever information is given to them and pay off the informant in hopes for being the first to release the information although they probably have paid them big bucks for some information that may not even be true. There is always a chance of there being some truth to the story but not all of it actually being true. That is where the naïve people of the world come in and feed into the nonsense that is being sold to us to believe just to make some money. The media goes back before the United States was even a free nation; they printed newspapers that allowed the reader to write their own comments under the stories that were printed. Newspapers are still printed today but there are no spaces for writing only stories of everything that is going on.

Also the role of the media is to formally update the people about what is happening in the world around them. This means that it should give the audience an objective view of what is occurring without violating any human rights or offending viewers. Since there are no certain limitations put on announcing violent material, some Arab media channels like Al-Jazeera started excelling in giving the viewer a complete picture about what is occurring in warring nations. From announcing the casualties on the battlefield to airing hostage torture videos, Al-Jazeera and other news agencies are airing more graphic footage, and this has many negative effects on the viewing public. Terrorists make use of this extra publicity that these networks give them, to promote their message that they will kill if their demands are not met. Also children are adversely affected by the violence that is shown on television.

Therefore, the media should ban the broadcasting of hostage torture videos because they help to empower the terrorists by airing these horrible acts, and by making the brutal details of these murders accessible to the public, the media is igniting a propaganda war that can create a more hostile world. Finally airing the hostage torture videos shows no respect to the hostage's families and this clearly violates their human rights. News agencies are aiming towards the hostage videos and are making them more accessible to the public than ever before. Other options to violence should be encouraged and practiced on a greater scale. First of all the process of discouraging violence should begin at there home from the parents. Grownups should raise their children with the values and, morals to act responsibly and to take the blame for their own actions when they make a mistake or create problems because they didn't choose the right action. Parents should act in a manner that reflects this theory. A lot of people could control their actions without having violent acts in there everyday life. Some parents encourage better behavior with there children and, this will carry out this behavior throughout their adult lives as they grow up. When people see violence in the media they will shown that there are no consequences of violence. There is a difference that people know between fantasy and, real violence. Whether or no they choose to be a grownup and, realize yeah that's right or wrong is on them. When actuality hits them because there are consequences; however they are not always as strict as they could be or should be. Many people should be aware of the consequences and should take responsibility for their own actions and, not act like there in high school when they are caught. Next my angle is that if consequences were in forced more with harsher punishments then this would discourage people from going straight to violence. When people see that there are other people being punished for their negative actions they will see if you commit the crime that you will pay the time. Doing this will prevent more people from committing crimes and violent acts that are committed everyday.

There are many people that are entertained by violence that they see on television. Although the media show what audiences are interested in; I think that there is no harm in this. It is better to be aware but just because you see something on T.V. does not by any means mean that you have to do it. A lot of the time this is when the concept of reality and fantasy become involved in people's decisions. People watch these programs to escape from there real world life and retreat to a world of make-believe like what is in a video game. Even though people get a grasp of themselves though make believe they are returned to there real world life where consequences occur when they result to actions that are not acceptable. Things are offered to people so they are aware that resorting to violence is not okay and, there are other ways to deal with anger. Classes as such are offered for anger management. When someone becomes
