English assignment selection A (Stress)

1. "Good stress, bad stress" is an article written by Sacha Bonsor.

Stress has become a way to common word in the modern everyday language. Too many people are dealing with stress on a daily basis. The growing statistics are showing that stress is taking its toll on the UK economy. In the year 2004 stress had cost the UK economy £13.5 billons due to increased illness.

Stress is, by definition, people's reaction to excessive pressure and demands.

According to Dr. Bond those who are best able to cope with stressful situations have high levels of psychological flexibility. These people let themselves feel fear and they use fear for a constructive end, therefore they are good at handling stress. In some situations avoiding stress can be damaging because you never get the experience that will help you deal with the next stressful situation that arises.

According to this article if you want to live a long and healthy life, avoiding stress is not the answer. We all need some degree of stress in our lives.

2. The first text focuses stress-related problems at work, and how to deal with them. In the text we learn that one of the least stressful jobs is being a dinner lady. In comparison to a teacher, the dinner ladies don't have much interaction with the children, and for that reason this job is almost free of stress.

People working jobs where they cannot express their true feelings seem to be the most stressful, whereas employees who are distanced from the public are more stress-free.

We also learn that ambitious people who look to the future are less likely stressed, compared to those who dwell on the past.

In the article "Good stress, bad stress" we learn how some people can react after a stressful day. These stress-related problems might cause people to knock down walls, attacking others or drinking extreme amounts of alcohol.

Family life is another stress-related problem. Some families have problems getting the days to function. Their busy schedules are so overfilled with work and other activities, which leaves the family emotionally drained. Today's families hardly ever spend any quality time together. Even the weekends are jam-packed with activates leaving no time for rest and relaxation.

The text also mentions how our culture encourages each individual to pursue their own search for self-fulfillment.

In text four we learn how stress can affect the human body. James Burleight claims that stress in small doses can be healthy, however being exposed to long lasting stress can damage our immune system.

3. I think the statement is somewhat accurate. Doing the same thing over and over again cannot possibly be healthy or exiting for a person.
