The Affect of Corporate Downsizing

What ever happen to the American Dream? Although our economy is struggling daily, our government at this point is still not willing to call it a recession. Due to the affect of corporate downsizing people are losing their jobs, homes, cars, families, and everything else of any worldly possession. This is happening on a daily basis and is affecting me as a human being along jeopardizing women in high positions. It is really sad to see such thing happen, but as we all know men would prefer women to be home in spite of coming along and thriving in corporate America and making themselves known.

While people are losing jobs, employers are still paying top company executives millions of dollars in bonuses, or just millions when they are forced out the door, but we still suppose to encounter or be willing to believe in the American Dream when their whole lively hoods have been affected with corporate downsizing.

Corporate downsizing has truly affected me in a way that caused the company I use to work for to fold. This was all because of lies the CEO of the company kept telling employees about how strong the company was, and how all of our jobs were secured. As the text states "A lie is a lie", only to find out that he was only talking, telling lies, and basically looking out for himself. When it all came out the CEO could not really look anyone in the face, because he knew he had lied and knew what his intentions were, and that was to get his money while he was trying to convince everybody that the company was stable. Now the government had to stop unemployment benefits for millions of people, who some do not have a place to lay their heads, and are applying for food stamps has hit record high. People are being told to budget and not spend as much money as they have in the past, but are still seeing corporations downsize until it finally hit them, and still they see the executives of the corporations not being touched or moved, because their millions continues to role.

In this paper, I intend to explore "The Affect of Corporate Downsizing" so one can see that it does not only affect employees, it affect families, customers and our community as well.

One have dedicated over half of your life to a company and sometimes under undesirable situations just to keep your job to provide for your children, spouse, and sometime parents just to be told that in about 10 minutes of a day thank you for your service, but the company is going thru a reorganization and we have to let you go. In addition, escort you out of the door. Now you tell me this affect does not affect an individual psychological and emotionally to at times they are not thinking rationally and then go buzar and do something crazy, like shooting and killing people which in turn affects the community as a whole, because in a case like this people lose friends, neighbors and family. Again, corporate downsizing is taken a toll on the American people and their communities and families. Where is the American Dream?

Dreaming is not when the country is at a record high of jobs losses. Dreaming is not coming home to your family and you do not know where the next meal will come from. Dreaming is not knowing how you are going to pay your house note, car note, or even if you will be able to send your kids to college. This is not an American Dream, this is a nightmare, but in the end, top management executives in downsizing come out smelling like roses.

It is clearly understood that sometime corporations have to do what they need to do in order to stay profitable, so going through a sweep every so often is sometime necessary. During this time people emotions run high and they never know when it will hit them, but in the aftermath, it appears that the people live paycheck to paycheck, and need their jobs the most are the ones that get the axe. I do not see principal of charity in this at all. No honesty or really accurate information was given out as stated.

If you have lived long enough and have experienced losing your job doing a downsizing project, you know the people that are left are affected as well. Companies expect one person to do the job of 3 or 4. They want the job done, but do not want you to work overtime to get it done. There environments are never envied, it causes emotions to run high steadily. The same organization that was once designed for certain jobs to be built around a certain number of people are now left in imbalances states. This is when the customer gets affected by corporate downsizing. At this point, the customer service level is lacking, because the manpower is not there for the demand.

Downsizing can sometimes be good for some people. This is only time they will take a chance to explore other opportunities, but fail to do so before. Doing the downsizing process, managers need to be more proactive in communicating with employees. This really makes the employee feel like you really care about their well being. This also makes the employees feel respected. At times when employees know or have been laid off, all communication ceases
